  Port Remote Area Wireless Network

Maritime ports are a key gateway for a nation’s trade and commerce.   All aspects of a port’s remote maritime operations can benefit from shore-side high speed broadband network service.  Today’s enabling technologies can provide a low cost and efficient Port Remote Area Wireless Network (PRAWN) enhancing a port’s commercial competitiveness, operations, safety and security.

In response to the demand for in port network service Ocean Systems has engineered a turn-key network solution providing a low cost and efficient Internet Connectivity for remote users such as arriving deep sea vessels, harbor service fleets, transiting vessels, port authority vessels, search and rescue and law enforcement.

Example PRAWN Applications

  • Arriving vessels under contract receive a self-contained PRAWN remote unit connecting to computer's Ethernet. Onboard personnel have immediate access to world- wide web/internet through Ocean Systems DSL Router.  Crew can conduct ship and personal business.  PRAWN unit removed prior to departure.
  • A harbor tug fleet operator fits permanent PRAWN remote units.  Crews now have network connection with port offices and other fleet vessels.
  • Law enforcement vessel fits PRAWN remote unit providing access to shore-side databases and operations support resources.
  • An attending Port Captain/Engineer connects laptop to home office to access historical equipment service records and electronic manuals.
  • A marine service company’s attending field service engineer downloads service records for on board equipment before boarding a vessel.  Service report sent to home office after service is completed.
