Ocean Systems Incorporated (Since 1988)

  OSI History and Mission

Founded in 1988, Ocean Systems has been a pioneer in the development of advanced voyage management decision support tools and consulting services for the shipping industry. Safety of navigation, voyage performance and fuel conservation have been central to over a decade of on board and shore side decision support products and services.  Within the last couple of years, our talented engineers and scientists have developed a line of type approved “Maritime Black Box” components which today are marketed directly to makers and integrators of IMO Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) systems. Our VDR components have been designed for fast and reliable integration into a manufacture’s VDR system, thereby saving our customers substantial cost and time in the product development cycle.

Our company’s success and growth has been accomplished through sound business practices.  We know the maritime markets and understand what it takes to be successful over the long term. Being a closely held corporation we make our resource decisions to support a long-term business strategy, not for the next investors' financial report. Over the last decade our growth has been funded internally and through participation in government sponsored SBIR (Small Business Innovative Research), DARPA (Defense Advance Research Project Agency) and other technology programs.

Our voyage management or navigation products and services (Vessel Optimization and Safety System and our Voyage Data Recorder Components) are installed on over 300 commercial vessels worldwide and include container, tanker, passenger/cruise and special purpose vessels.  We provide naval architecture and marine engineering consulting services to a range of clients from government agencies to major oil companies and shipping companies.  Our optimum ship routing system has been adapted for use by the U.S. Navy in their Optimum Track Ship Routing Centers.
