  VDR Audio Recording Kit

OSI’s VDR Audio Recording Kit is designed and manufactured to supply VDR makers with cost-effective ready-made kits for audio recording and microphone testing as specified by IEC 61996.  It has been successfully incorporated into Type-Approved VDRs currently on the market.

The kit consists of a custom audio mixer/switch PCB, two standard PCI sound cards, software, and microphone/ speaker units. The mixer/ switch PCB can mix inputs from up to 9 microphones and 3 VHF radio channels into two stereo channels for input into standard low cost sound cards.  It also switches a test tone output from the sound card to a separate miniature speaker housed in the same microphone unit to test the recording function of microphones per IEC 61996.

Main features of the OSI audio solution are:

• Line level microphone output for extended distance and less electronic interference onboard

• Built-in speaker for remote testing

• Microphones may be panel- or bulkhead-mounted

• High quality recording with standard audio compression formats

• Cost-effective solution using off-the-shelf components
